I don’t think many people in the rather ambivalent middle of the political spectrum fully understand the agenda the Far Left is pushing. Most people in the middle are simply sick of it all. But I thought I would highlight some recent happenings and a few of the ways the Left in America has become completely unhinged because people need to know.
This is not just about Republican versus Democrat any longer. The lines are drawn much differently now. Please note that when I refer to the Left I am referring to the Left part of the Democratic Party, not the entire Democratic Party.
The Left
If you vote for candidates on the Left in two weeks, this is what you are voting for. If you vote for Democrats who vote the party line, then this is what you are voting for because at the moment the Left and Far Left are setting the agenda for the Democratic Party. And, yes, if you stay home and don’t vote because you don’t like Trump, you are still voting for this.
If you are a Democrat, then God bless you and that’s all I can say. From this point on I’m talking about the Left that is taking this country to some horrible places we simply cannot go. If you can’t see that by the end of this post in addition to the other posts I’ve written recently, then I don’t know what to say to you. There is such a massive difference between the two parties right now that it’s impossible not to see it unless you don’t want to see it.
There were two main reasons I voted for Trump – court nominations (especially the Supreme Court) and illegal immigration. What happened in the Kavanaugh hearing and then after the Kavanaugh confirmation was disturbing. The idea that there were U.S. Senators who were willing to destroy a man and declare him guilty with no evidence is seriously disturbing. Thankfully the rule of law prevailed and we dodged that Republic-ending bullet (at least for now).
Illegal immigration was the other reason I voted for Trump. Yes, I am one of those horrible people who says Build the Wall. Enforce our immigration laws. Remove people who don’t belong here legally. Immigration should be limited and merit-based. No one has a right to come to our country and demand anything. I don’t have the right to do that anywhere else in the world and no one has the right to do that here.
That this is even remotely controversial to say is simply mind-boggling.
(And the “Christians have a responsibility to welcome the migrant argument” that progressives like to use isn’t going to work here.)
Every country in the world has the right and RESPONSIBILITY to defend their borders and their citizens. Look at history. It is replete with battles and wars and skirmishes over boundaries and borders. One of the main functions of our government is to provide a defense.
If after reading all this you still think the best thing to do is vote Democrat in two weeks and support these views and this agenda, then I really don’t know what to say.
"Emotions neither prove nor disprove facts. There was a time when any rational adult understood this. But years of dumbed-down education and emphasis on how people 'feel' have left too many people unable to see through this media gimmick."

The Left, the Democratic Party, the Mainstream Media, and Blacks
The Democratic Party believes it is their God-given right to control Blacks. They expect them to vote as a monolith and not question. The mainstream press is complicit in this by what they will not cover. Let me give you an example.
In Michigan, John James is the Republican Senate candidate who is trying to unseat a long-term establishment Democrat who unflinchingly votes straight Democrat with establishment Democrat leaders like Chuck Schumer. James is from Detroit. He is a West Point graduate, a combat veteran who flew Apache helicopters. He has a Masters in Supply Chain Management and Information Systems from Penn State and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He is now President of his family’s businesses in Detroit. And he’s Black.
The family business was started by his father. His grandfather was a mason. His great-grandfather was a share cropper. His great-great-grandfather was a slave.
He’s married and has two little boys. His wife is white. (I mention that only because the fact is important to the point I’m making.)
I bet unless you follow conservative media you have never heard of John James even though he is an exceptionally accomplished and qualified man to run for the Senate. He is the ideal candidate, but he’s not Black Enough to get the support of the mainstream media and so they bury him.
Why? Because he’s a conservative. He’s pro-life. He’s pro-second amendment. His family history illustrates that in a few generations a slave’s great-grandchild can go on to be successful and his great-great grandchild can run for Senate of the United States.
But that doesn’t fit the Black Narrative the Left pushes and so they ignore him.
I bet you’ve heard plenty about “Beto” O’Rourke in Texas who hasn’t accomplished anything compared to James. But the key is O’Rourke is a Leftist. It doesn’t matter that he’s white. He’s a Leftist and so the media and the Democratic Party will throw their full weight behind him.
I heard one statistic that if just 20% of Blacks leave the Democrat Party, the Party will basically cease to exist. They are that dependent on keeping the Black Vote in line and where they want them. This is why they freaked out when Kanye West went to the White House and they attempted to destroy him by any means available.
Meanwhile, the mainstream media ignores qualified Black candidates like James. If James was a Democrat, he would be the second-coming of Obama in the eyes of the media.
Actually, that’s an insult to James because James has accomplished far more with his life than Obama ever did.
But James thinks for himself. And so they shun him.

The Wall, Illegal Immigration, and the Mob That Does Not Respect Our Laws or Borders Heading Our Way
According to this article, 147,000,000 adults from around the world want to come to the United States. Please note, that is just adults. By way of comparison, our current population in the USA is 325,700.000 of which 22,000,000 of them are illegal immigrants. If we have an open border, the United States as we know it will cease to exist.
A few questions… How did this many people (mostly young men of who knows what reputation) decide all at once to walk 2,000 miles to enter the U.S.A. illegally? How are they walking that far? How are they eating? Where are they sleeping? Where are they relieving themselves? This is PAID FOR BY SOMEONE. This is not real or spontaneous. This is an October surprise, the last ditch effort of someone to impact our elections. This is an invasion. These are people who are carrying the flag of another country while they walk. They are not coming here to embrace America and our ideals. We know they are not coming here for safety because if they are, they are required to apply for asylum in the FIRST country they enter. They are coming here for completely other reasons. They were also putting children and pregnant women at the front of the line in order to intimidate law officials. This is WRONG on every level and must be stopped.
These are real images from yesterday.

On Political Correctness
There was an article that came out last week in The Atlantic (of all places) that showed Americans OVERWHELMINGLY think political correctness is a problem. Americans Strongly Dislike PC Culture outlines that 80% of people think it is a problem and this includes a high percentage of Hispanics, African Americans, etc.
The only people who think political correctness isn’t a problem? Well-educated, well-off, white progressives. Shocking, huh?
Apparently, even uber liberal Chuck Schumer got the memo because you know darn well he would never say this if The Atlantic hadn’t published that article. EVER. He’s the lead Senator of the Democratic party that pushes for political correctness and has for over twenty years.

Elizabeth Warren, who cares? I’m more concerned about the Kool-Aid the Clintons are serving in their 6 month tour. MeToo, anyone? Bill Clinton belongs behind bars. I don’t think there’s a national candidate that all Dems can get behind … which means #MoreHillary. I’ll laugh all the way to the polls, especially after reading the Fox News article that Nikki Haley may VP with Trump in 2020. That’s a ticket I’d campaign for, and I’m a fan of Pence.

I don’t walk around telling parents not to give their kids books and movies filled with black magic, I just keep it away from MY girl.
The irony here in Ohio is the allegations that our Senator Sherrod Brown assaulted a woman back in the 80s. Unsubstantiated, old news, and he said/she said. Yet ….. crickets from the Left.

Dearest Sallie, I have used and trusted your site for some time. Whether I agree with you or not on building the wall is besides the point of your website. You have provided wonderful home school information and many units I have been able to use in my public preschool that provides education to low income children from America, China, Mexico, India and Yemen. Over the years I have used many ideas of yours to help educate these wonderful children, whether they have come from America or another country as immigrants. I agree that something needs to be done about the impending mob, I don’t know if a wall is the answer or not, but your site is not where I want to read about these things. I had grown to trust your website but now I must say goodbye, because as so many narrow minded American’s, you too have intermingled church and state, and placed an educational website right into the middle of it. I do not believe this web page should be full of either Republican or Democratic slander and bull****. This page was for our children that we are trying to teach to care about everyone, not to be biased, not to bully and not to discriminate. This rhetorical nonsense would not be what came from the mouth of Christ. So, my wish is may Christ love fill you with a love and understanding for the children who will be the victims of the mob, the wall, or what ever happens to them in America, the land of the free. For now, I say Adieu
Sallie
Hi Robin,
Thank you for your comment.
Would you point out specifically what I shared that was slander or bullshit? In each of these posts I have gone out of my way to share links from a variety of people, publications, etc. If you will point out information that refutes what I have shared, I will be happy to correct anything incorrect in my post.
Would you also point out where I have mingled church and state? I have purposely stuck to secular sites and secular topics. I have specifically not mingled church and state in what I have written. Other than sharing satire from The Babylon Bee (which is a Christian site), I don’t think I’ve shared anything about culture from a Christian site. But, again, if you point out to me where I’ve done so I’ll be happy to address is specifically.
As far as this:
“This page was for our children that we are trying to teach to care about everyone, not to be biased, not to bully and not to discriminate. This rhetorical nonsense would not be what came from the mouth of Christ.”
Would you point out to me where I specifically encouraged bias, bullying, or discrimination?
I’ve said before in other posts that I like when people use absurdity to make a point and I enjoy satire. So if that is what you are objecting to, then we’ll have to agree to disagree on that.
While I knew these posts would upset some people, I’ve also had many people email me privately to thank me for saying these things publicly because most people are too afraid to do so.
Sallie
Grainne McDonald
Be encouraged, Sallie. This is an excellent post, based on facts and not ‘feelings’. The use of invective and false accusations made by Robin are typical of those who do not calmly analyse and think, rather than base their views on their own subjective experiences. I am an immigrant, a legal one, who went through all the necessary procedures in order to gain the privilege of citizenship in America. I understand that you cannot have a country unless you have borders around a state which is under the rule of law. The law applies to everyone or it is no law.
Thanks for your clear and sensible gathering of articles from many sources which rely on fact rather than slogan.
Becky
You can call me horrible as well. I am Hispanic and I am a US citizen as well as my parents, grandparents and great grandparents. I have been accused of being racist because I believe that laws should be placed in order to stop this invasion of illegal immigrants. I am not racist and I do not hate my own race, but I do believe that if you come here illegally you are a criminal no matter where you come from. If you break the law you need to be held accountable period! Do I feel sorry for some of these people? Well, the answer is yes. But I still don’t believe that these people are owed anything from this country and I do not understand the support these people are getting for being defiant toward our laws. They have no respect for our country or our laws! I am tired of these Dems and their supporters some of whom don’t even vote to voice their support for this insanity. As, for these wealthy actors or actresses that sit on their high pedestals they need to be brought back down to reality. They are so out of touch with how ordinary people live their life and they spew their own beliefs onto us and our family without any regard for what we believe in. We are just supposed to suck it up because their word is the gospel. It’s no wonder this young generation has this sense of entitlement and it just throws out any sort of common sense or moral values. And as for our president, I am not saying that our president is a saint, but the hypocrisy of people like Hilary Clinton and other morally corrupt people just like her to point their dirty finger at our president is absolutely insane! This divide in our country, lack of support and constant bashing of our president only shows weakness to other countries. I don’t understand how this isn’t a concern for our citizens. The very same people who are accusing those who support our president and other republicans of spreading hatred are the same people who are doing the same thing they are accusing the other side of doing. How can they not see the hypocrisy in that? They are trying to silence what is right and just. We have a porn star that has gone public as an adulteress get a key to the city of Hollywood, why? What did she do that is so worthy of being honored the key to a city? It is absolutely frustrating and I am very fearful for the future of the United States. This PC culture and all of this hate that is being spread is sickening. I pray that all moral standards and values aren’t completely lost and that what is right will prevail.
Melissa
While I’m not saying goodbye (yet? I hope not…I have found so many helpful articles here), I’m quite a bit taken aback. The general tone of this is just so angry and ugly. I don’t really relate to either political party, as I don’t feel like I can stand behind either one with confidence. I sort of feel the same way about your site now. I am so, so sad to see your beautiful site turned into something so angry. I’m not saying you’re wrong. It’s your blog to do with what you please, but I’m not sure that this is productive and every time I’m done reading one of these political posts, I just feel sad and let down about the content. I used to really look forward to your cozy posts, but I’m wondering now how sincere it all was. If this is your true personality, I am a little scared to keep reading. Of course, this is probably what you want to hear. I’m feeling pretty let down about where this is going and quite frankly, it hits close to home. I lost a dear friend who wouldn’t stop bashing Republicans on Facebook and I questioned her about her motivations. I am left wondering, why couldn’t you broach these topics with more respect and grace? It needn’t be any less effective.
Cristy S
In Sallie’s defense, she may be angry, but in all the years I have followed her, I’ve never seen disrespect in anything she’s written. There is none in this post.
I also don’t see anything in her “cozy” writing that reads “lock your doors and bury your head in a cozy comforter because people are acting crazy outside.” Her reasoned outrage is a breath of fresh air. I’m sorry you don’t see that more clearly.
Melissa
I don’t suppose Sallie really needs you to defend her. I think she did a much better job of that with her coherent writing below, which I actually appreciate and agree with! No sarcasm necessary.
Cristy
I agree Sallie needs no defense.
I comment here only to add no sarcasm intended either. Feel free to ignore my comments, Melissa. You’ve decided “what I mean” without really considering what I write. It’s a common problem these days. And I’m tired of explaining myself any more than I have. Best wishes.
Melissa
“I also don’t see anything in her “cozy” writing that reads “lock your doors and bury your head in a cozy comforter because people are acting crazy outside.” ”
It was that comment that seemed pretty sarcastic toward me. I never suggested that this is how things should be. That’s all I mean. Don’t worry. I’m not dwelling on it and I don’t think you’re a bad person. I genuinely wish you well, also!
I appreciate the comment sections on this site because it seems like more individuals are actually willing to be civil and understanding, unlike some of the trash you will read elsewhere. People acting like grown-ups is a refreshing thing! Sorry if I read your comment wrong.
Sallie
I’ll have to break up my reply to these comments into a few comments since this will probably get long.
My really long time readers might remember that in 2008 I spoke out against voting for Obama. I thought his lack of experience and his views on many important topics made him a poor choice. I mentioned at that time that I had more executive experience in my life than Obama had in his. But everyone got wrapped up in the hip, potential first black president who offered “hope and change.” I saw people vote for him solely because he was black even though I knew that his views on certain subjects were diametrically opposed to their own.
Once he was elected, I expressed my disappointment and said on my blog that I hoped he would fail in terms of being able to implement his policies. After that, I basically said nothing. Even when I got on Facebook for the first bit I said nothing. When Obama was finally leaving office and I expressed my joy that we were moving on, some of my far left Facebook friends were stunned. They had no idea how much I disliked him as president and his policies. That’s because I never said anything other than mentioning things re: Obamacare because health insurance related things mattered deeply to me. I also didn’t say much because I didn’t have the strength to deal with the political correctness garbage that has taken over our country the past few decades.
(History will not be good to Obama. He was a terrible president in so many ways and when objective historians look at his legacy it will be a very poor one.)
There is nothing false on this website. Believe me, I could be making a whole lot more money with this site if I was willing to skirt ethics or even wander into the gray areas of my own ethics. Whatever faults I have, I’m not a hypocrite or deceitful.
I’m also not one-dimensional. I’m an autodidact in many ways. I have mentioned in posts before that I crave learning new things. I read and synthesize what I read. I enjoy discussing ideas with people. My gifted overexcitability is intellectual. From the SENG site:
“Intellectual OE is demonstrated by a marked need to seek understanding and truth, to gain knowledge, and to analyze and synthesize (Dabrowski & Piechowski, 1977; Piechowski, 1979, 1991). Those high in Intellectual OE have incredibly active minds. They are intensely curious, often avid readers, and usually keen observers. They are able to concentrate, engage in prolonged intellectual effort, and are tenacious in problem solving when they choose. Other characteristics may include relishing elaborate planning and having remarkably detailed visual recall. People with Intellectual OE frequently love theory, thinking about thinking, and moral thinking. This focus on moral thinking often translates into strong concerns about moral and ethical issues-fairness on the playground, lack of respect for children, or being concerned about “adult” issues such as the homeless, AIDS, or war. Intellectually overexcitable people are also quite independent of thought and sometimes appear critical of and impatient with others who cannot sustain their intellectual pace. Or they may be become so excited about an idea that they interrupt at inappropriate times.”

When I said in the first political post I wrote a few weeks ago that I was BORED with my site, I wasn’t joking. I like what I do here. But there is more to me than what I was doing. This is precisely why I have tried more times than I can count to “niche down” my site the way I’m “supposed to” and I can’t do it. I fail every. single. time. It is SUPREMELY BORING to me to only talk about one topic such as homeschooling or gifted/2e. I’ve tried. I can’t do it.
It would be like me telling Caroline she can choose one art medium to use the rest of her life and that’s it. She can draw with pencils or use chalks or do watercolors or do acrylics or do clay or use her computer, but she has to pick one. That’s it. No one in their right mind would tell an artistically gifted child that she had to choose one art medium and that’s it.
That’s what it’s like for me to only discuss one or two topics on this site. I feel like only a partial person and incredibly stifled. Like all gifted people, my overexcitability is both a blessing and a burden.
I knew that if I did this it would alienate some people. But for every negative comment I’ve received, I’ve received two emails from people thanking me profusely for stepping out and doing this.

So what made me decide to do this? I simply could not stay silent any longer. The Kavanaugh hearings showed me beyond a shadow of a doubt that this country is at a tipping point. We are facing some large issues that are going to determine the way this country goes for decades to come. My website may be small and my voice may be small, but I decided I could no longer sit by and say nothing.
As I said in another post or comment (can’t remember which), I saw the Trump election coming two weeks out and stated so publicly on Facebook. I saw it coming because I read widely and synthesize information. I’m not saying this to toot my own horn. I’m saying it because it is just a fact. I don’t know how to NOT be this way. It’s who I am.
I can walk into a room and quickly pick up on the dynamics, tensions, and such just by observing. I can get a read on people incredibly quick. I’ve met people and known in under thirty seconds that there was something seriously wrong about the person and he/she was not to be trusted. I don’t know how to NOT be this way. It’s who I am.
I also decided to write because people have to speak up. Maybe it is a function of my age, but I remember when people weren’t afraid to voice their opinion. When people could agree to disagree and move on. It is in no one’s best interest to live in a country where people are afraid to speak for fear of their jobs, their freedom, etc. If I can see the big picture and help other people see it, then I think I have a responsibility to speak up. To be a voice for people who know there is something wrong, but can’t express it fully.
Sallie
What I deeply resent at this point in time in our country is the way that I am supposed to be an unthinking person who follows marching and voting orders because I am a woman or white or a Christian. I’m not a one-dimensional person and that’s why the I find the identity politics of the Left so incredibly distasteful.
I don’t vote according to someone’s race (racism) or sex (sexism). I didn’t vote for Obama because he was black. That would be racist. I have voted in primaries for both Herman Cain and Ben Carson. Not because they were black but because I felt they best represented my views. I did not vote for Clinton because she was a woman. That is sexist. I DEEPLY resent as a woman being told I must vote for a woman even if she is diametrically opposed to everything that is important to me.
My husband and I are business owners of an S Corp since 2001. The decisions that impact business in this country impact me.
I’m a person with a pre-exisiting condition who has purchased her own health insurance since 2001. Decisions about health insurance matter to me.
I’m a person dependent on what is to me a fairly expensive drug. Decisions about medications and coverage and such matter to me.
I’m a homeschooler. Choices about freedom in education matter to me.
I’m the mother of a daughter. Choices about women matter to me.
I’m married to a wonderful white man. Choices that impact “evil white men” matter to me.
I’m a Christian. Choices about the freedom to practice my faith matter to me.
I’m a fifth generation Michigander. National economic choices that have decimated my home state matter to me.
I am pro-life. Choices about these things matter to me.
I struggled for nine years with infertility. Choices about adoption and the costs that make it inaccessible for the average couple matter to me.
I DEEPLY RESENT the narrative from the Left that insists I must vote and think a certain way because I am a woman. That is supremely insulting.
And I REALLY RESENT the anti-white, anti-male narrative coming out of the Left. I’m white and there is nothing I can do about it. I’m married to a white man. And I’m not going to apologize for it or be made to think I should suffer from “white privilege guilt” due to things I have no control over.
Sallie
So, yes, there is some anger behind some of what I’ve written. I have tried to temper it, but I do feel angry. What they did to Kavanaugh was appalling. I finally had enough and spoke up.
I honestly think the best thing that could happen to this country is for the Democrats to get absolutely crushed in the election in two weeks. It will force their party to reconsider where they are going. They will either decide to go full-on socialism or try to move back more to the center. God help us all if they are allowed to continue to push their far Left agenda on our country. But it would be best if they were forced to make a hard choice about what they are doing. And it will be a battle within that party to set the agenda.
They are a party in disarray at the moment who abandoned the white middle class and white working class for identity politics. It’s not working any longer. The availability of social media and the internet means they can no longer control the narrative. People can access information for themselves. That’s why support for Trump by Hispanics and African Americans has been steadily growing for the past eighteen months. That’s why the Walk Away movement started and continues to grow. People are finally realizing they are not owned by the Democratic Party just because of the color of their skin or some other factor in their life. What the Democrats do next will be interesting to see.
For all of Trump’s faults, I do believe he is trying to make choices to right the ship in this country. He can’t do it all in two years and it’s amazing what he has accomplished considering how so many have worked against him whether it is the media, the Left, the Swamp, the Never Trumpers, and everyone else who has tried to take him down. When he campaigned, he presented a list of what he would do. He’s steadily working through that list. For all his faults, he has kept his word.
I think it has become abundantly clear to most people that we need a wall and to get a grip on immigration. We cannot allow tens of millions of people to continue to flow into this country. It’s simply not sustainable. Hundreds of millions of people around the world would come here if they could. That’s simply not possible.
Healthcare still needs to be fixed. The national debt still needs to be fixed. These are problems that have grown for decades. Hopefully Trump can get some of these things done. Ideally, he will get a Republican Senate and House after the midterms so they can get to work. Do I think they will do everything perfectly? No. I’m sure I won’t like some of what they do. But someone has to make the hard choices and get things done. I think the Kavanaugh hearing was a swift kick in the pants to the folks on the right that they need to work with Trump even if they don’t like him. Time will tell.
Last thought for now. I’m a big picture person. I look at the big picture of our country and policies. Like the quote from SENG above, I’m a person who problem solves. It might seem like I don’t care about individuals and how policies impact them. I do care. Policies impact me and my family, too. But while some will look at the mob moving toward our border and see all the individuals and imagine their sad stories and feel like we should let them all in, I look at the mob and think about the big picture of our country. I understand why people feel sorry for them. I really do. But feeling sorry for them isn’t enough to make me ignore the truth of the big picture. I’m simply a more big picture thinker in how I approach problems and the things I share about culture and politics will always reflect that.
judy
Thank you for this, Sallie. It cannot be an easy thing to put yourself “out there” like you have.
In the past few weeks I have had to rethink so many things.
The hardest one for me has been the “me too” movement. Just because a woman brings a charge against a man, because of the me too movement I am REQUIRED to believe her? If I don’t, I’m somehow failing all women? How is this even a thing?! I do not know her. What hole have people crawled out of that believe ALL WOMEN can be trusted, just because they are women? And no man can be trusted just because he is a man? Ugh. How did we get here? At least this is what I’ve picked up from a few blog sites I frequent.
I used to wonder why people could not see how history repeats itself, but I guess many people have little to no interest in history, so they have no way of noticing the pattern. And again I say, ugh.
God requires that I love my neighbor. And I will. But I do not have to agree with them to love them.
Please keep talking, sharing, and even offending. It’s how we learn.
Sallie
Hi Judy,
While the #metoo movement had value, it is not dealing with the realities. They can say all they want that false rape claims are rare, but I simply don’t believe that today. There are too many social justice warriors who will have no problem claiming something if they think it will advance their cause. Look at just these examples from the past few months.
Ohio University Student Senate member who claimed to have received death threats arrested for making false alarms
Connecticut college student gets 1 year in prison for false rape accusation
High School Girls Admitted to Making False Sexual Assault Accusations Against a Male Student Because They ‘Just Don’t Like Him’
This one is very graphic so disclaimer on that:
Two Students Hooked Up. It Was Clearly Consensual. He Still Spent $12,000 Defending Himself.
We are naive if we think we should believe all women. Listen to them and investigate? Absolutely. But believe someone just because she’s female? Declare a man instantly guilty because #evilmale? No way.
That’s not America and that’s not Christianity either.
Sallie
And regarding history repeating itself, check out this article. A full 25% of millenials were traumatized by the election of Trump at the same level of someone who witnesses a mass shooting.
For some young adults, the 2016 U.S. election was a ‘traumatic experience’
I’ll make the same comment here that I made somewhere above. The best thing for these people is for the Democrats to get crushed. We are not doing these young adults – ADULTS – any favors by coddling them with safe spaces and therapy dogs and cocoa and coloring books. They think if a conservative comes to their campus to speak that the speech is violence. No joke. If anyone wants to see proof, let me know. Multiple colleges and universities have canceled speakers because leftist students were traumatized by the idea of a speaker coming and SPEAKING about something.
The sooner these kids are forced to face reality, the better.
Melissa
Sallie, let me first say that I very much appreciate the things you wrote in the comments section. I can get on board with reading you write out your thoughts coherently. What I am having trouble getting on board with is making fun of people (Elizabeth Warren, Kristen Bell – not sure what she has to do with politics, but I am fairly uninformed compared to many) and then lumping them together with all Democrats, as though all Democrats are just idiots. That’s what I mean.
Sallie, I think you are a very well-spoken woman with a lot of research under your belt. Why not use your God-given talent and write from your heart, like you did in the comment section? While I understand you like using snark, in my opinion, it isn’t tactful or effective for conveying actual information. It just makes you seem judgmental. I am much more likely to listen to someone who speaks rationally and not with a lot of sarcasm, making fun of people, etc. I’m just giving my opinion here, and you don’t truly owe me or anyone else any apology or explanation for yourself. However, I do feel that it’s okay for me, as a reader, to give you some respectful feedback, which is what I’m attempting to do. I don’t mean any disrespect.
Perhaps I’m just confused because I’m not as well-educated in politics as you are (I’m not being sarcastic. You clearly are more educated.). I think I was also a bit confused about what you were trying to accomplish with this post, but it’s more clear to me now after reading your comments.
After taking a couple days to digest this and reading your responses, I’m going to say that I do respect you for speaking out. I had to think long and hard about why your post got under my skin so badly. First, as I mentioned, I lost a dear friend because I was utterly surprised at her willingness to bash people (not just ideas, but people) in relation to their political preferences because they did not align with hers. I wasn’t going to let it slide by me, so I said something, got into it with her, and was informed I was no longer needed as a friend because I wasn’t siding with her and her hate speech. So it cuts straight to an emotional wound that has nothing to do with you personally. I was just seeing a lot of the same kinds of warning signs of people-bashing in your post here and it honestly made me really uncomfortable. I’m just being honest.
In full disclosure, I’ve typically been a Republican voter (bet you all thought I was a bleeding-heart Democrat in hiding, right?), but I am completely ashamed of the way our President conducts himself. I just don’t understand why he can’t try a little harder to be less disgusting in how he presents himself and represents our country. But here I go talking about feelings, so I suppose that’s not a valid point.
I mostly agree with you on your points and political views. I just got really lost with the way your were delivering the information. It’s your site to do with as you please and you don’t owe it to anyone to silence yourself, so I do hope you continue doing what you’re doing because your voice does matter. I just had a good long moment where I wasn’t finding things very helpful and felt pretty disappointed about where things were going. I truly don’t know why I feel compelled to keep explaining my feelings. At any rate, people-pleasing isn’t an attractive quality, and you don’t seem inclined to be able to do that anyway, so good for you. Do what you need to do for you. I’m going to keep reading. Maybe it will even lead me to being more well-informed.
Cristy S.
Since it seems my comments were the ones you found unsavory, I will explain briefly.
Elizabeth Warren and Kristin Bell were both mentioned in Sallie’s post. While Ms. Bell is not in politics, she did come out this week criticizing Disney Princesses after having voiced one in the Frozen movie. Seems hypocritical.
If you look at the reaction to Ms. Warren’s DNA testing and announcement, I wrote “who cares?” because really, apolitically, who cares? If you admonish Trump for calling names about it, then why answer a bully with any information on it? And if you think she should justify her claims, do you come forward with poor results? I thought we were on equality these days. I vote based on policy outlook, not DNA. Or race. Or sex. Or age.
I added my outrage about the Clintons because in this era of “me too” (and I’m a “me too” … Bill Clinton has been a serial abuser. Both of them have glossed over it, and it is appalling. Google “accusations against Bill Clinton” and look for mainstream newspaper coverage.
I didn’t and won’t say all Democrats are idiots. I know a great number of really fine people on both sides of the aisle. I do think there’s a lot of what I hope is “temporary insanity” going on.
Sallie is writing here about culture, not just politics, and the whole post questions a lot of different arenas. There is a lot of education to be had here. But if I could suggest a closer examination of what has been said here, Melissa, I think you might find that your distaste and disappointment is misplaced. My comments are from a place of irritation, not mockery. They are wholly my own, and well justified. I *do* believe in individual rights, until they are unjustifiably infringing on others. It’s call constitutional law.
Melissa
Christy, none of the long comments I made were addressed to you. It was to Sallie. There was simply 1 line, which I replied to under one of your comments, which I quoted you for saying that sounded sarcastic (about sticking my head in a comforter). None of the rest of it was addressed to you, whatsoever.
I believe you may have read it incorrectly. Like I said, I’m not dwelling on anything or worried about it at all. Please refer to one of my previous comments where I said that I appreciate Sallie’s comment sections because they are NOT filled with the trash (i.e. unsavory) comments that many other places are filled with.
Which brings me around to my final point, being that I think it’s sometimes hard to read people’s tone in written text, while it’s easier to understand someone’s tone while talking to them in person. I never meant for any back-and-forth with you and I haven’t made any reference to any of your previous comments. Please understand me when I say I’m not trying to argue with you, or get into it, or anything. I think you’ve mistaken some of my comments as being addressed to you and they were not.
Cristy
All good, Melissa. The comment you are replying to only posted later after all this was worked out.
I’m good, and so are you. 😁
Sallie
Hi Melissa,
THANK YOU for coming back and explaining your perspective. I TRULY appreciate it. You’ve given me some good food for thought. Writing those comments that I did yesterday was very helpful for ME to sort through some things. In fact, while you were writing this comment I was working on rewriting my “Meet Sallie” page to clarify a bit about what I do here. I’m still working on redoing it, but it’s good to change it.
Making the connection between Caroline’s artistic bent and my intellectual bent was truly a game changer for me. It was like this HUGE light bulb went on. I have struggled with the whole niche blogging thing for years. The women in my Mastermind group could confirm this as could David. LOL! But now I really get why it has never worked for me so I’m glad you asked the questions you did because it made me think.
I also appreciate how this post could come across as a one-off. I was writing it from the perspective of it being the next in a series of posts since I’m assuming most people who read it also read the previous political posts I wrote the past few weeks. However, if they didn’t I can see how it could be off-putting. So in the future I’ll be more careful about how I frame the political posts when I write them. Thank you for making me think through that too.
Re: the Democrats thing… That is why I used the term Left because the Democratic Party is not the same thing as the Left, especially the Far Left. The Far Left in this country have lost their minds. Seriously. But not all Democrats are part of the Far Left or even the Left just as all Conservatives and Republicans are not part of the Alt-Right. So, again, I will be more specific when I write these things.
We’ll have to agree to disagree on the Elizabeth Warren and Kristin Bell things. The Warren thing was so ridiculous that even the pro-Democrat cable networks backed off supporting what she was doing. The Kristen Bell and Kiera Knightly thing is also ridiculous. Cinderella stories and other fairy tales exist around the world and have for centuries. All of the sudden we have these “woke” actresses telling us that fairly tales are bad because people are going out of their minds trying to define “consent.” It’s a terrible path to go down and I do think they deserved to be laughed at for making such statements. So we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one.
However, that did make me realize that when I share things I should make sure I put more context around the links I share because not everyone may have the background to understand why I’m sharing something or even mocking it.
Thank you for taking the time to give me really helpful feedback and not just going off in anger. Your follow-up comment really blessed me.
Sallie
Melissa
Sallie, I also truly appreciate you responding to me and clarifying where you are coming from. I deeply appreciate that you have put so much thought into your political views and don’t just join in on whatever agenda the “groups” you so-called “belong to” are pushing. I wish others were more thoughtful and concerned.
I am also sickened by the Far Left. Disgusted, really.
I am oftentimes an easily offended individual (boy, that hurts to admit it out loud!) and could really work on not taking everything so personally or getting upset when people’s opinions do not mesh with my own. We are all allowed our opinions and no one is going to agree with me 100%. That would be a truly scary thing. Lol. I will, in the future, try to stop and think about where people may be coming from and not assume the worst!
I don’t think we even disagree on Kristen Bell and Elizabeth Warren. They are both a complete joke. I’m not even entirely sure why it offended me so much to see they are being made fun of. Maybe it is just the mocking that gets me, but yes, they are ridiculous.
Thank you for listening to me and having a genuine dialogue with me. It is appreciated more than you know. Maybe I will even end up really appreciating where all of this is going! I will try to remain open-minded. Thanks again.
Peggy
Sallie, you are right on. The Democrats have learned virtually nothing since 2016, so they deserve to keep on losing elections.
I don’t really expect that they will lose as soundly as they deserve to; Trump’s election was a lot closer than it should have been.
I notice that there has been a real erosion of trust in the public sphere: news of the caravan started coming out, and right away people were saying, “Someone must be PAYING for this.”
I had to explain to someone who loved The Last Jedi that I just couldn’t get into the movie and enjoy it, because I was constantly waiting for the moviemakers to gratuitously insult me and my values. (Which they did, a number of times.) The suspension of disbelief required to enter someone else’s fictional world relies on a certain amount of trust in the storyteller.
I know that is exactly how many people feel about Trump, but what I see is that he is doing his best to do the things that really need to be done, while being obstructed on all sides, sometimes even by his own party. He does not need to be reined in by losing the House or Senate at this point.
Peggy
Oops…cross-posted. (I’m not a fast writer.)
Sallie
Hi Peggy,
You are so right about the erosion of public trust. I had the same thought about the caravan. It’s clearly planned by someone. There’s no doubt about that. Those poor people are being manipulated and used for political purposes.
Today when the bomb thing came out, my first thought was “Now what?” My second thought? Someone on the Left coordinated this. Could it be a deranged person on the Right? Yes. But if I had to place a bet, I’d put my money on someone on the Left hoping to sway public perception. The Left has been taking a beating on the mob thing. The bomb thing and the “mob” that confronted Pelosi a few days ago both seem like staged events in order to make it seem like the Right does it too. The Pelosi thing looked completely staged to me.
The MSM doesn’t even pretend to be objective. If Trump said the sky is blue and the sun is hot, they would find a way to spin it that he was clearly wrong and deranged. It would be funny if it wasn’t such a serious problem.
Obama got 90% positive MSM coverage. Trump has had 92% NEGATIVE MSM coverage. That’s outrageous.
https://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/media-trump-hatred-coverage/
The MSM deserves a crushing Red Wave just as much as the Democrat Party.
Your comment about “The Last Jedi” was interesting. I feel the same way about most media now. Everything is so agenda driven that it’s nearly impossible to simply relax and enjoy a TV show or movie. So I just skip them and watch something I’ve watched before.

Aside from the hyperbolic statement about Jesus, these two videos are really good. Their observations about Google are so correct.

This is fascinating and very educational reading for a Canadian living in the U.K. Politics in all three countries (Canada, the United States and the U.K.) are very different. From over here, it looks like the U.S. is practically on the verge of civil war. Here in England, the Far Left agenda has a lot of traction too, though anyone with an ounce of sense can see the issues are used by politicians of all stamps with an eye to getting elected. What alarms me is the division both sides have created. I can’t help but wonder who benefits from keeping people angry, afraid, defensive and divided. There is an almost total erosion of public trust (here as well as there in the U.S.), so people either cast what we call a protest vote, or refuse to vote at all, being so disillusioned with the entire system. I feel that leaves the door open to the type of extremist politics that have existed in the past. God help us all.
Sallie
Hi Alison,
Thanks for your comment. I actually added another section this morning that you might find interesting. It’s about the mainstream media and the way they cover Black candidates and Black conservatives.
We are actually in a civil war. It just looks different because there is no bloodshed like with the Civil War in the 1860s. But we’re in a war. There is no doubt about that.
You are right to wonder who benefits from keeping people “angry, afraid, defensive and divided.” People in the USA are so overwhelmed by the relentless difficult news. I expect the next ten days as we head toward our mid-term elections are going to be horrible. Most people never pay attention to the mid-terms. By contrast, this year officials are planning as though this is a presidential election year.
It’s simple. People are either voting to keep America as America (with its faults that do need fixing, to be sure) or they are voting for a more rapid decent into socialism, political correctness, identity politics, and the like. This is no longer about Republican versus Democrat in the traditional sense. This is about keeping the sovereignty of the United States as a Republic or surrendering it to the most radical parts of the Democratic Party.
And if any fellow Americans believe I am overstating this, feel free to disagree with me with supporting evidence.
Sallie
Amy
Sallie, this post was so good I sent the link to my husband. The Left — and our culture — have slid downstream so gradually that I think many people are shocked and wondering how we got here. The idea that Prince Charming kissed Snow White without her consent is laughable and outrageous… I have no words. I want to shake my far-Left friends who think American women are oppressed and say, “do you even know how women live in Saudi Arabia?” I’m a Virginian but I donated to John James after watching Debbie Stabenow’s patronizing speech during the Kavanaugh vote. Like you, I don’t believe all women. I believe individuals. How ironic that “To Kill a Mockingbird” was just voted the No 1 most beloved book in America. A book about a woman who LIES about being raped by an innocent man!! Please keep your thought-provoking blogs coming. I’m worried how these elections will turn out. We need voices like yours out there!
Sallie
Hi Amy,
Thank you for your kind words. I’m glad you found the post helpful enough to share. And thank you for contributing to John James’ fund. I didn’t hear Stabenow’s speech and I’m more than willing to accept your take on it for my own good. LOL!
The princess stuff is so over the top ridiculous it’s mind-boggling. It really is.
Did you see the “To Kill a Mockingbird” parody I shared in another thread? It’s really good. It’s in this post, quite a ways down.

Steve Hilton: Trump and his supporters are being blamed for a climate of rage and hate – but here’s the truth
https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/steve-hilton-trump-and-his-supporters-are-being-blamed-for-a-climate-of-rage-and-hate-but-heres-the-truth
Sums up the origin pretty well. I don’t care much who gets the blame, truthfully, but being in the battle with now abusive extended family members, the point about simply allowing all Americans the freedom citizenship is supposed to guarantee, starting with speech, sure would be nice.
Sallie
Cristy,
Did you watch the two Rubin Report interviews with Tucker Carlson just above this? Carlson has an interesting take on two of the themes in that article you just linked. He talks about the mainstream media and how his core assumption about them was wrong for a long time. He also discusses the elites of both parties and their views of the average American.
IMHO, the elites are so out of touch with the average American they can’t even grasp the fact that they are out of touch.
Hearing Tucker Carlson talk about his show and how he’s wired made crystal clear to me why I liked him as soon as I saw some of his clips on Facebook. He’s a big picture thinker who thinks beyond today or a particular candidate/leader. I hadn’t figured that out, but when he said it I knew it was true from watching his show fairly often.
Cristy
Right after I posted this, I watched the first video. Looking forward to the next video, but later today. More soon!
Sallie
I just logged onto Twitter to find something I was going to share with you and this is the first thing that pops up:
“How much toothless white trailer trash can you fit in one hangar?” from a wealth management guy about the Trump rally in Illinois.
https://twitter.com/BartHubbuch/status/1056286830826524672
Cristy S
I keep meaning to go to one of the rallies. Mostly because I have had very few opportunities to actually SEE a POTUS in person. And yet, I worry that there will be violence. I can’t imagine why.
Sallie
Pence is coming to stump with John James today just a few miles from our house. I told David to feel free to go, but we have the same concerns about the nut jobs out there. Although, it’s probably way safer with Pence or Trump there because the Secret Service will keep a tight lid on things.
Lindsey Graham was stumping with Marsha Blackburn in Tennessee yesterday and they had some people come unhinged. It’s craziness.
Sallie
Oh phooey. The tweet I was going to share that I knew you would love is deleted. It was a video of Hillary at some event saying “I want to be President.” She went on to say what a terrible situation the USA is right now on the world stage and how no one knows what to think. And with her vast experience in the Senate and as Secretary of State she is uniquely qualified to “do the heavy lifting” starting in 2021. After the mid-terms are over she can make a decision, she said, so this was clearly a recent tweet.
Talk about total lack of self-awareness. If she wasn’t such a truly horrible person, I would feel sorry for her.
Sallie
Someone else put it up. This is the video.

I did read that this morning on Fox. My word for it is delusional. But she has SO. MUCH. MONEY. Perhaps because there is no national candidate, she thinks she has a chance. I see Biden making a more realistic play (which also is delusional, because I think most voters still remember some of the garbage he has pulled), but either will wind up losing to Trump, and with a little wider margin than the last election.
For now, I’m just praying we all survive the midterms.
Cristy
And hey, you added a lot of good stuff to this, I need to go back and re-read it from beginning to end!
As for moderation, I’m not sure why. I wanted to ask if it was because of my race, gender, political/religious affiliation, but that’s kind of snarky… Or, more likely, some hate-glitch your software has with me wanting to be notified for every.single.reply? Joking… I don’t really know nor care … I’m happy to do the Captcha pictures every post from my phone. It makes me stop and think a wee bit before I go through with posting. But just a wee bit.

This video lays it all out very simply and concisely.

“Wait! No! That’s not the history I want to hear, that makes it FALSE.”
(Please note the quotation marks, dear Reader; it means I am writing of someone else’s speech … and yes, mockingly so.)
Love PragerU, need more hours in the day to read/listen/watch their stuff. But the day calls. You are SO good at getting me to go down rabbit trails, Sallie!

And more from the same woman later in the day.
Translated: If you vote for Trump or Republicans, you are a racist (even if you don’t know it) and you care more about your tax cuts than people.

White men make up a third of our country. This is hate speech, nearly inciting riot. I hope the far Left and the media get beat like a big bass drum on Tuesday.
Sallie
“We have to stop demonizing people” and then demonizes all white men.
This is so racist and yet he keeps his job.
I can’t even watch CNN and MSNBC to try to keep informed. So much of what they report is flat out lies. Simple fact checking will show it to anyone who wants to look. Being on Twitter has also been very helpful because there are so many people who can immediately refute the lies with links and facts.
I’m seriously having to bite my tongue and not post about these things this week. I know people are worn out from it all. I just continue to share links in the comments here.
The Democrats and Media (one and the same thing) must be crushed next week. This isn’t about the Republican Party winning. This is about something much bigger than that.

I’m dying over here! LOL!
