If you are reading this and you are white, they want you dead. You realize that, right? It’s time to stop pretending like this is all just a misunderstanding or something.

From the article:

An academic article, styled as a “love letter” that seeks to provide the “consciousness needed to eradicate whiteness,” was published by the International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education.

“We must actively and collectively help to do the work of disrupting, dismantling, and eradicating whiteness,” California State University East Bay professor G.T. Reyes says in his call to teachers.

Titled “A love letter to educational leaders of Color: “CREWing UP” with critical whiteness studies” the article called on scholars, including white scholars, to “fully humanize themselves by abandoning whiteness, destroying it, and sending it to its grave.” Reyes quoted another article when he said that this is the “greatest act of love whites can show.”

From the article:

Patricia (a pseudonym) is the mother of a teenage girl who in recent years has come to identify as transgender. She lives in California, considers herself progressive, votes Democrat, and leads a group for parents of children with rapid onset gender dysphoria (ROGD)—that is, youth who suddenly experience distress with their bodies and believe that undergoing medical “transition” will make them whole again. When I spoke to her recently, she recounted how her daughter’s at-first-lesbian and then trans identity emerged in response to feelings of shame about being white.

I have since spoken to more than a dozen ROGD parents and parent-group leaders who tell a similar story. Their schools compulsively tell their children how awful it is to be white, how white people enjoy unearned “privilege,” how they benefit from “systems” put in place by and for white people for the sole purpose of oppressing “people of color.” Plagued by guilt, the children—almost all of them girls—rush to the sanctuary of “LGBTQ+” identity. Once there, they are catapulted into hero status. According to Patricia, some teachers at her daughter’s school are more forgiving toward “queer” and “trans” kids who hand in their homework late.

The students, especially the girls, absorb this messaging. They are acutely sensitive to how identity affects their social status and academic fortunes. They want the warmth that comes with queer/trans identity, but above all they don’t want to be thought of as vicious oppressors. Lacking maturity and self-confidence, they fail to put “anti-racist” indoctrination in its proper context. They do not appreciate its ahistorical, anti-intellectual, and anti-humanist foundations, nor are they aware of the incentives leading teachers and administrators to foist it on them. Being white is not something these teenagers can escape, but they can mitigate its social costs by declaring themselves part of an oppressed group.

The wages of whiteness for teenagers are, however, only half of the story.

This is a must-watch video. Although they start out discussing schools, it is about much more including the trauma being experienced by both boys and girls in our society.

Watch the video and then my comments follow.

“Take Your Children Out Of School” – Psychiatrist Dr. Mark McDonald

Regarding the education system, I have been saying exactly what he says for over twenty years. To hear a psychiatrist from Los Angeles recognize the truth of what must happen on a national scale is amazing.

He goes further than I’ve ever heard a professional like him go when discussing the state of schools, colleges, and universities.

The government school system is not only a failure, it is irredeemable.

What an answer to prayer that people’s eyes are finally being opened.

The Coming Collapse of the Education System

I truly believe we will see the collapse of the national educational system, the elimination of the Department of Education, and the return of all education decisions to the state and local level in the not very distant future.

The absolute insanity of the past few years has accelerated this in ways I don’t think the education establishment saw coming or can adapt to. A significant portion of the country absolutely despises what the educational system has become. There is no going back. It will never be the same again. It will only be something different.

The Fourth Turning is about the destruction of rotted institutions. The First Turning is about rebuilding and community.

We are getting there. Praise God.

Please. Take seriously what he is saying.

You have to place your children first.

Take your children out of school.

Public Education Has No Working Narrative In The Fourth Turning Collapse

Like so much in America, the institution of public education is dying during this Fourth Turning.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer decided this week that anyone who works in a school district is qualified to substitute teach in a classroom in order to fill the overwhelming number of holes for the rest of this school year. This includes bus drivers, lunch ladies, library aides, etc. Basically anyone who has passed a background check and has a GED or high school diploma is now qualified to substitute teach in Michigan. I would guess many of those positions will be long-term subbing situations that will go on for many weeks or even months. Things are that dire.

(At this juncture I’d like to point out that I’m a graduate of Michigan State University’s Honors College with a degree in Elementary Education. I also now have 30+ years of teaching, parenting, homeschooling, owning a business, and general life experience under my belt. However, because my teaching certificate is lapsed and I decided not to finish up my Masters degree, I’m technically no longer qualified to be a teacher. Think on that a minute.)

Anyway.

Nikole Hannah-Jones of The 1619 Project fame recently declared that parents should have no say in what is taught in the schools. She believes parents are unqualified and it should be left to the professionals. Hannah-Jones specifically said on Meet the Depressed:

“I don’t really understand this idea that parents should decide what’s being taught,” Hannah-Jones said. “I’m not a professional educator. I don’t have a degree in social studies or science.”

Does anyone else find this rich considering the relentless push by the Left to get her questionable work of history into every corner of every educational establishment in this country?

And then there is Loudoun County Public Schools which is currently the American epicenter for parent backlash regarding teaching critical race theory, allegedly covering up sexual assaults among students, putting what some describe as pornographic materials in the school library, and who knows what else. The narratives in that area of our Republic are failing rapidly from every direction as parents are filing FOIAs left and right to find out what is actually going on.

That’s just three stories of literally thousands from around America.

Failing Institutions In The Fourth Turning

The Fourth Turning is marked by the failing of institutions. Education is seeing that in spades.

For every family who is pushing back against public education or even leaving in favor of homeschooling, the motivation is slightly different. The story is taking different twists and turns in various communities across our great country. But make no mistake. Public education has totally lost control of the narrative. They have no idea how to get it back. Parents and other Americans who care about children are no longer sitting back and letting the “experts” call the shots any longer. Trust is completely gone.

Public education isn’t getting the narrative back. As a trusted institution, it is nearly dead. The only questions that remain are how quickly the final breath comes and what replaces it in the First Turning.

I guarantee you it won’t look anything like we have had over the past 50 years. The parents aren’t going to allow it.

The End of Public Education As We Know It? 3 Reasons To Hope So

View Full Post with Embedded ContentThe End of Public Education As We Know It? 3 Reasons To Hope So

The year 2020 will be looked back on as the tipping point for many changes in our country. Let us hope it is also the year people look back on as the moment when public education collapsed under the weight of its own brokenness and unsustainability to be replaced with something much better.

At no time in my life have more people been more keenly aware of the dysfunction in our education systems than now. As a product of the public schools and a former teacher, I’ve never known a time when education wasn’t an emotionally charged issue. But we’re beyond emotions and to the point of no return.

Moral and Intellectual Bankruptcy of Higher Education

In recent months, the eyes of parents and the nation have been opened to the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of higher education. We now have professors in the Big Ten trying to distance themselves from their own peer reviewed published research for fear of the mob (which effectively marks the shocking and disturbing end of academic freedom). Penn State tweeted out something positive about conservatives students being welcome on campus and then immediately deleted it when people were outraged. There are very few secrets any longer about higher education. The only questions remaining are how many families will continue to foolishly pour money into institutions that despise them and their children, how many families will disconnect from all of it, and how many colleges fold. Before the pandemic there was already a shift away from the “everyone needs a college education” mantra. Families were running the numbers and realizing their kids could make better choices than becoming a debt slave for the next twenty years. The expectation was that as many as 25% of colleges and universities could fold in the coming decade in addition to those that had already closed in recent years. Now? I would think that percentage is probably higher and the timeframe shorter.

Dysfunctional K-12 Schools

In addition to laying bare the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of higher education, we are also now fully seeing the dysfunction of K-12 education. We’ve all known it was there. If there is one thing everyone in America can agree on, it is that public education is terribly broken. The problem is that no one with any power to do anything about it has had the guts to state the obvious truth.

It all needs to be completely demolished and redone – from top to bottom. From abolishing the Department of Education to freeing the tiniest school districts in America. All of it.

No one with any power to do anything about it will say that publicly. No one wants to deal with the tsunami of backlash that will accompany it. But now? I don’t even think that’s a controversial take for anyone except those who have a biased financial stake in the game.

No one believes small changes can make any significant difference. It is a completely broken system. There is no fixing it. Period. The only hope for children today and moving forward is completely rethinking all of it.

Education is an opportunity. It is what you make of it. But no students should have the right to disrupt the education of other students. No teacher should have to alter his or her instruction in order to simply cope with what happens in the classroom. And no parent should have to wait in a large gym or auditorium hoping against hope that their child’s number is drawn at random so he will have an opportunity for a decent education. The fact that this is the state of education in America is an indictment on our national and local leaders.

Three Reasons To Hope This Is The End of Public Education As We Know It

Here are three reasons this former teachers who loves America and its children hopes this is the end of public education as we know it.

First, President Trump might be the only person willing to lead the fight to dismantle the Department of Education and completely rethink local education. Most Americans have no idea the Department of Education was created as a cabinet level department in 1980. Since that time have educational outputs improved at all in this country? I think that answer is obvious. We pour billions of dollars into education that is completely wasted in bureaucracy each year.

In contrast, what happened when schools began closing due to the pandemic? Governors instructed local school districts to develop customized plans for their students. Why? Because it is the only thing that makes sense. Federal policies routinely fail because there is no one size fits all, especially when it comes to educating children. Education must be local and personalized if we are going to prepare students for the future. People are tried of government interference in their lives and are ready for more local control of everything. President Trump is the only person I can think of who would be willing to deal with the overwhelming pushback to move this forward.

Second, the exodus of families to homeschooling will put increasing pressure on public schools. Homeschooling is no longer a fringe experiment. It was already fairly mainstream before the lockdowns. Now? A significant percentage of families are choosing to homeschool this fall, many of whom will never return to public schools. There is no reason to return if they can provide a better education and a community experience while breaking free from the increasing curriculum madness being forced into the public schools. At some point, school districts themselves are going to begin pushing back against the federal bureaucracy in an effort to survive. They will have no choice.

Third, America can do better. If we assembled a group of dedicated teachers, pediatricians, psychologists, parents, etc. and charged them with creating a public education model, no one in their right mind thinks for a second that they would devise what we force on children every day. No one. We know it isn’t what children need. People who understand and love kids would come up with ideas that are completely different.

We can do so much better and there are millions of people out there who would jump at the chance to create something better for the kids in their local community if given the opportunity. The funds should follow the child to whichever school the family determines best meets their needs. No more being held hostage based on where you can afford to live. Citizens create outstanding schools in their community and families decide where to take their educational funds. This includes students with special needs who will be welcomed at schools designed to meet those needs by people who are passionate about serving student populations who need accommodations.

Creating Better Public Education In America

If there has ever been a moment to push for a complete and total overhaul of the public education system, it is now. All it takes is a few people in positions of power and influence to finally say once and for all, “Enough.”

To those who would object that we can’t dismantle public education because it is too big and will disrupt too many lives, I would say this. We have no choice. The system is broken beyond repair and already failing millions of kids. Like higher education, K-12 education is in the process of final implosion. Do we allow it to finally collapse on its own with no plan or do state and local leaders step up to stem the disaster and begin creating something better? If a few years of planned disruption means we build something better for the decades going forward, then isn’t it worth it?
